80 years of the Great Victory. Confines of memory and oblivion

As we approach the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, we offer you to read an interesting material created by the National Centre for Historical Memory under the President of the Russian Federation, the Russian Historical Society and the History Foundation.

On May 9, 1945 the Great Patriotic War came to an end. The light of this event illuminates the entire subsequent history of the twentieth century. The triumph of the anti-Hitler coalition was largely achieved by the incredible exertion of all the forces of the Soviet people. Soon after the victory, however, the memory of it began to be transformed under the influence of the Cold War. This material dispels some of the myths about the Great Patriotic War.
