Karl Ivanovich Bogdanovich, Academician of the Polish Academy of Sciences (1945). Geologist, engineer, traveller, famous researcher in the field of geology of minerals of European Russia, the Caucasus, Siberia, Kamchatka.

Member of the expedition to Central Asia and Tibet. Organizer of the Department of Ore Deposits in the Petersburg Mining Institute, creator of the first course in the oil fields geology. First developed the course “Ore deposits”, published in two volumes in 1912-1913. Since 1912, as a geological consultant, he led the exploration for oil and gas in the Emba region. In 1919, he moved to Poland, became a Professor at the Cracow Mining Academy. Then Director of the State Geological Institute of Poland. He published more than two hundred and fifty scientific works, including a number of textbooks and a four-volume monograph on world deposits of mineral raw materials.
