The Karpinsky Institute began field work in the easternmost region of the country

At the beginning of July, employees of the Tanyurer Party of the Department of Deep Geophysics began field work in the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug. The work is performed within the framework of the State Assignment of the Institute “Creation of a state network of reference geological and geophysical lines, parametric and superdeep wells in the Russian Federation in 2023-2025.”

The planned work is carried out as part of a systematic areal study of large tectonic structures in North-Eastern Russia and their junction zones. This direction was first introduced in the creation of the State Network of Reference Geological and Geophysical Lines.

Field specialized geological investigations in 2024 will be within the Kanchalan reference site (the basins of the Kanchalan, Tanyurer, and Belaya rivers), which covers the junction of three fold regions – Verkhoyansk-Kolyma, Novosibirsk-Chukotka, and Koryak-Kamchatka. Within the reference site there is a reference line 2-DV-A and several structural lines that need to be provided with new actual data for constructing sections.

Our geologists need to conduct field work at 10 reference sites, including ground geological routes at 1:50,000 scale to study the pre-Quaternary formations, specialized geological studies of the pre-Quaternary formations, various sampling types, and field desk processing of materials.

As a result of specialized field geological work, new material will be obtained that will enable to clarify the author’s versions of sections of the folded metamorphic layer and prepare the basis for the crystalline basement zoning, as well as to solve a number of key issues of the tectonic structure of the folded metamorphic layer and the crystalline basement in the Verkhoyansk-Kolyma, Novosibirsk-Chukotka, and Koryak-Kamchatka fold regions.

The work is scheduled to be completed in September 2024.
