Karpinsky Institute participated in the creation of the Manege exposition dedicated to the Great Patriotic War

The historical and documentary exhibition for the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War ‘Great Country - Great Victory’ tells about the heroism of the home front during the war and invites you to immerse yourself in the history of the heroic labour of millions of people.

Specialists of the Geological Research Museum of the Karpinsky Institute together with colleagues from Saint Petersburg Mining University helped to compile a unique scheme of the deposits active during the war.

During the Great Patriotic War, the country was in dire need of certain types of minerals to ensure uninterrupted operation of the war industry. Oil, gas, iron ore, coal, rare and non-ferrous metals and much more were needed. Already at the very beginning of the war the situation was complicated by the fact that in the occupied western territories there were a number of strategic raw material centers. This determined the need to increase the raw material base of the eastern regions - the Urals, Siberia, the Far East, Kazakhstan, Central Asia. It was in these areas that geologists needed to identify new deposits of strategic raw materials as soon as possible.

The scheme shows mineral deposits - manganese, aluminium, gold, mica, coal, oil, etc. - that were explored and put into operation during the war, as well as deposits known before the war that made a significant contribution to the victory of the Soviet Union in the Great Patriotic War.
