The Karpinsky Institute upholds and advances the longstanding tradition of broad
international cooperation in the geological study of the Earth's interior and assessment of
mineral resources potential. Hence it initiates a network of Geological Classes around the
world - Karpinsky Classes.

WHAT IS A GEOLOGICAL CLASS?

Each Karpinsky Class is an open scientific and educational centre aimed at creating additional mechanisms for scientific support of joint projects in geology and mineral production, exchanging experience with partner countries, and executing educational and popular science events. The class is open to subject matter experts and students, as well as to anyone interested in geosciences.

ACTIVITIES:

• Giving public lectures and executing a series of workshop sessions by exerts in geology and geophysics of the Karpinsky Institute;
• Carrying out activities aimed at popularization of the Earth sciences — exhibitions introducing the history of geological science, its current state and achievements of the Russian Geological School, as well as watching feature films and documentaries about geology, professions and outstanding professionals in this field;
• A library with scientific periodicals and accessible information for visitors.

NETWORK OF CLASSES TODAY

At present, the Karpinsky Geological Classes are successfully functioning in the Republic of Ghana (Accra) on the basis of the Museum of Science and Technology, Ministry of Culture, in the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia (Addis Ababa) on the basis of the Russian Center for Science and Culture, in the Republic of Mozambique on the basis of the Museum of Geology (Maputo) and in the Republic of Cuba on the basis of the Institute of Geology and Paleontology.
