MINERALOGICAL AND HEAVY CONCENTRATE ANALYSIS

The following types of work are performed at the Laboratory:

Sample preparation for mineralogical analysis and monofractionation of various rock-forming (feldspars, including individually potassium feldspar and plagioclase, pyroxene, amphibole, mica and others) and accessory (zircon, apatite, chrome spinelide, garnet, sulphides and others) minerals of crushed and loose rock, as well as the isolation of the ground mass and phenocrysts of various composition in effusive rock.
While processing large-volume samples, for the removal of the slag from material, flushing cones are used, which allow working with samples weighing up to 10 kg and more. To obtain rock concentrates, samples are processed on large and small vibration concentration tables. If necessary, sieving and particle size analysis of disintegrated samples are performed on sieve vibration analyzers. To isolate various minerals, separation is used in heavy liquids of different density (bromoform, methylene iodide, Thoulet, Clerici solutions), if necessary using a centrifuge; mineral flotation using modern 189FL and 237FL flotation machines; separation of minerals in accordance with magnetic and electromagnetic properties using various electromagnetic separators, including the LB-1 isodynamic separator manufactured by S.G. Franz Co. Inc., USA.
Thanks to the application of various techniques, it is possible to isolate pure monofractions of various minerals even when their content in the rock is very low.

Study of mineral composition of crushed and loose rock and ore of various genesis. Complete and reduced quantitative mineralogical analysis of samples is carried out to solve a variety of geological problems, including during exploration for diamonds, gold, platinum group metals. In accordance with the order (contract), minerals encountered are thoroughly described, their sizes, morphotypes, optical constants in immersion solutions are determined. Investigations are conducted on modern optical equipment that makes it possible to determine minerals and calculate their content in fine sizes from 0.01 mm. Investigations of the composition of sand and other building materials for the presence of harmful impurities (coal, organics, phosphate, chalcedony, opal and others) are performed for construction and industrial enterprises.
