Towards the need to introduce a new taxonomic unit «Subdivision» in the General Strati-graphic Chart of Russia

Present paper considers the current state of the international and general stratigraphic charts of the Quaternary system, due to the ratification by the Executive Committee of the International Union of Geological Sciences in July 2009 of the International Commission on Stratigraphy offer to lower the Quaternary system base at the level of 2.588 Ma and to move Gelasian from the Pliocene series/epoch to the Pleistocene as its lower stage. Moreover, the rationale is given to introduce a new taxonomic unit “subdivision” in the “General Stratigraphic Chart of Russia” to split the “Eopleistocene division” into two parts: Lower Eopleistocene and Upper Eopleistocene subdivision.
